STUDENTS GRADES 5 – 12 CAN EARN THEIR VARSITY LETTER IN EQUINE SPORT THROUGH OUR UNITED STATES EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION (USEF) LETTER PROGRAM
Spring Lane Ranch is pleased to be able to provide young students the opportunity to letter in equestrian sport. In the past, athletes participating in this exciting and challenging endeavor, were not included in these athletic lettering programs.
Today, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is partnering with professional horsemen to provide a quality instructional experience which will culminate in the achievement other scholastic athletes enjoy – a Varsity Letter.
The pursuit of proper horsemanship has been a valued teaching medium for centuries. Nobility relied on the horse to teach the important lessons of life to their privileged descendants, knowing the value therein. Through the years, these benefits have been substantiated time and time again.
Studies conducted by the University of Nebraska, Penn State, and The American Youth Council, to name a few, have shown a significant positive relationship between horsemanship skills and life skills.
Attributes which include, but are not limited to, goal setting, self-reliance, commitment and follow-through, composure, and respect. Dr. Janet Sasson, a well-known Sport/Child Psychologist says, “Riding horses enables children to realize how their choices, attitudes, and behaviors affect other living creatures around them.”
Riding increases a child’s focus and this learned concentration has been seen to transfer into improved performance in the classroom. Personal management skills are developed, especially in structured lesson environments, where the child learns to keep track of multiple items. The lifelong joy of physical activity that can be instilled, provides wonderful health benefits including cardiovascular fitness, balance, coordination, and flexibility benefitting the equestrian throughout their lives.
